Overview

Prof. Md. Afzalur Rahman is the current Director & Professor of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD). His contributions in the field of Cardiology, especially Interventional Cardiology have been recognized extensively in Bangladesh as well as across the world. During his career span of 25-years, he has pioneered numerous angioplasty techniques Directional Atherectomy, Angioscopy, Thrombectomy devices and Drug Eluting Stents, Bioabsorbable Stents and implemented it successfully both in Bangladesh and other regions in Asia Pacific.

He has special interest in IVUS, FFR.He has developed several techniques for Complex Intervention and PTMC among them Afzal’s technique for LAD ostial PCI is well recognized.

He is the Winner of the Greatest Case Around the World, TCT-2007, Washington DC, USA. Emerging Young Leadership Award in Interventional Cardiology, CRT-2009, Washington DC,USA. Best Case Award, Angioplasty Summit TCT, AP 2009, Seoul, Korea. Research Fellowship Award, 5th International conference on preventive Cardiology, Osaka, Japan. Dr. Rahman is the President of the Bangladesh Society of Cardiovascular Intervention (BSCI) and Chairman & Course director of Bangla Interventional Therapeutics (BIT). Associate Director of TCT (Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics), Washington, DC, USA. International Governor of ACC (American College of Cardiology).

He has more than 135 publications to his credit in prestigious national and International medical journals. He has trained a huge number of Cardiologists from Bangladesh and abroad in advance techniques of angioplasty.
