Dr Kamrul Hassan Tarafder

Professor & former Head of the department of otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Shahbag, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Dr Tarafder takes a keen interest in consulting both adult and paediatric patients, his main surgical interest lies in Thyroid surgery, Airway management (complex airway obstructions,laryngotracheal stenosis,micro-laser surgery) ,obstructive Sleep Apnea, Septo-Rhinoplasty & Endoscopic sinus surgery.

Educational Activity

He is the advisor of Editorial Board of Bangladesh Journal of Otorhinolaryngology and the current Chairman of Faculty of Otolaryngology of Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons (BCPS). He has been the coordinator, convener and moderator of multiple courses including the fellowship, residency and diploma programme. Prof Tarafder was the principal investigator of a project conducted by WHO.Under his guidance the national survey on ‘Incidence and Prevalence of Hearing Impairment in Bangladesh’ was conducted in 2013.

He has published more than 50 journals both at national and international level. He has been at the forefront in establishing a skill lab for aspiring young surgeons at BSMMU.

Academics

Tarafder qualified in medicine and achieved his ‘Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery’ (MBBS) degree from Chittagong medical college in 1981.

He has completed his fellowship degree (FCPS) from Bangladesh College Physicians and Surgeons in 1991.

FACS by the American College of Surgeons (FACS), USA,

FICS by International college of surgeons(FICS),USA, for his dedication, work-ehic and academic contribution in the field of Otolaryngology.
